Places - Antofagasta, Chile (Part 1)

The flight to Antofagasta (about 1200km) took about an hour from Santiago. When landing, we could see that the surrounding landscape was bare and dry - very dry. The town is a staging point for many mines that exist throughout the Atacama desert. We boarded a bus that would drive us about 130km south to Paranal, where the ESO VLT is located. Part 1 is our arrival on a sunny day, and Part 2 is our departure when the weather had turned gloomy.
