Core Capabilities

The founders of FASORtronics have extensive experience in the design, construction, and manufacture of extremely stable single-frequency lasers, and their power scaling and frequency conversion. We are broadly skilled in the technologies of lasers, optics, optomechanics, low-noise electronics, and computer control. Our laboratory facility and library of available software tools are well suited to working as a developer of these laser-related technologies. Our partnership with TEAM Technologies for broad-based engineering support and manufacturing facilities allow us to take our newly developed technologies to meet our own commercial or customer production requirements.

589nm Sodium Guidestar Lasers

We have a special interest in the further development of high power 589 nm single-frequency lasers for use by astronomers as "guide star lasers." Our design, based on well-established Nd:YAG laser technology has proven that power levels over 50 watts are realistically available as has been demonstrated by the second-generation FASOR guidestar laser system installed and in heavy use at the Starfire Optical Range since 2004. We have completed preliminary designs that are gravity-vector invariant and built for reliable daily use while also providing easy in-field serviceability. We seek partnerships with observatories to build and install guidestar laser systems.

Single-Frequency Lasers and Resonant Frequency Conversion Technology

High power guidestar lasers owe their power to two high power infrared injection-locked lasers: one at 1064 nm and one at 1319 nm. Single frequency power levels of 100 watts at 1064 nm and 60 watts at 1319 nm were demonstrated by the second-generation FASOR guidestar laser system. In the case of the guidestar laser, the two infrared beams are resonantly combined using sum-frequency conversion to create a 589-nm beam; however, each infrared laser can be resonantly doubled to create separate high power single-frequency lasers at 532 nm and 660 nm. Alternatively, a second wavelength can be resonantly enhanced to produce a third wavelength as is the case for a parametric oscillator. FASORtronics has the expertise to build cw single-frequency lasers, such as these, at high power levels and offer them as a custom OEM device or as a commercially available product in quantity. We seek OEM partnerships or the opportunity to provide an innovative laser product for your challenging project requirements.
